Wendy Cole ACE-CPT/ACE-CES/NS, became an ACE certified personal trainer in 2006. As a life long fitness enthusiast, with a deep desire to help others to live physically, mentally and spiritually clearer, she literally changed her life's path. Since becoming certified, she continually strives to learn and grow in an ever changing industry. Shortly after becoming a certified personal trainer, she felt the need to address the challenges faced by many in today's society that suffer diseases and disabilities. She deeply believes that many of today's illnesses can be overcome, or at least controlled by proper exercise and diet. She decided to pursue a certification to meet the needs for individuals that need help getting their lives back. She wrote and passed the Clinical Exercise Specialist certification for ACE in 2007. Wendy considers herself to be lifetime student of human function and life.
"As a result of a broad based disc bulge and disc protrusion, I began to experience significant pain and discomfort in the lower back and right gluteus maximus areas when surfing two days or more in a row. A fellow gym member recommended that I read Anthony's book "The Pain Free Program" and after doing so, I scheduled an appointment with Wendy Cole at Function First. Wendy took me through a very comprehensive postural alignment and gait examination process, and noted several mis-alignments, tilts, and deviations in my posture. She then recommended an exercise plan to help correct many of the deficiencies found during the examination. After just a few weeks of performing the exercises, my time in the water improved substantially and my discomfort was greatly reduced. During the next several visits with Wendy, she recommended additional exercises that have enabled me surf on a much more regular basis. I highly recommend Function First for people who are serious about reducing any back, neck, and shoulder pain."

"I worked with Wendy for three months and had the best results of my life. I suffered from chronic back pain for 16 years. I tried everything. The MRI showed a herniated disc, and a slipped disc. The pain was terrible. I tried everything...massage therapy, eppideral shots and pain killers. Nothing had any lasting effect. i have regained complete mobility/stability and enjoy a pain-free life now!"

Specialties
Wendy lived on Catalina Island where she had many opportunities to meet different challenges. She has worked with individuals recovering from knee surgery, to back surgery, to clients in wheelchairs, to weight loss clients, to sport specific training, to island boot camps. As one of the few certified professional on the island, and the only fitness facility on the island, she needed to be able to meet the needs of many different types of clients. She had the ability to adapt physical therapy programs to real world functional programs, as well as get small groups of clients ready to face the day in the early morning, and smiling too!
Training Philosophy
Wendy believes that the right exercise strategy is a key component to a happier, fuller, healthier life. Through goals, and achieving our goals, we become more vital in all of our endevors. As we become more and more balanced and content with our selves through functional movement, the right nutritional components and, from this, a better outlook on life- we become more complete. With each step of the process we all learn, grow and change Each person is an individual. Each person's program should reflect this individuality. While exercise is a form of "work" it is important for components of the process to be enjoyable, and suit the individuals personality as well as achieve their particular goals. This allows the person the ability to set new, higher goals and continue a pathway of success. Wendy views herself as a stepping stone in each persons life. She leads and teaches her clients, and groups, using a perspective that each person is wonderfully unique.
"Drastic reduction in my blood pressure: It was once up to 180/80 - not good - now it is in the normal range. I also suffered from chronic low back pain, it is much better now - I managed to pack and move without any pain! I've learned better movement skills, reduced 13% body fat, and learned to love eating a much healthier diet!" "
